What does effective mentoring mean in actual practice? How can I be a good mentor?
This book answers these questions and is designed to offer nursing and healthcare students a foundation in effective mentoring. Chapters examine the roles and responsibilities of the mentor, and how they enhance the process of mentorship. By examining the relevant competencies and knowledge base, the book provides an essential framework for developing the practice skills needed for successful mentoring.
Key features include:
- Embedded in real-life practice and case study examples
- Offers tips for successful mentoring and reflects upon likely challenges
- Features a range of interactive study activities linked to the student and mentor's experiences
- Presents the most up-to-date professional guidance
- Includes running themes of reflective practice; evidence-based practice and multi-professional working.
Mentoring Nursing & Healthcare Students will help both the mentor and the student to develop the skills needed for effective collaboration. It is the core text for mentor preparation and mentor update courses in nursing, midwifery and allied health.
A necessary text for inclusion on the reading list for those student teachers working with pre-registration students in their work area. Case studies provide useful examples.
This book supports the NMC (2008) Standards for Supporting Learning in Practice and is a very useful reference point for all mentors.
This is an excellent practical manual, with good theoretical content too, at the right level for our students. For a ten-week part-time programme it would not be appropriate to require purchase. However it will be highly recommended and elements of it could become required readings if an electronic version were available to us.
Straightforward detailed read in relation to both Nursing and Healthcare students.
A well written and concise text. A text that will supplement the needs of the student and registered nurse alike
A valuable resource for mentors incorporating policies and research in the field of mentorship studies. The authors provide a practical guide for applying theory in clinical settings utilising real life examples.
Although directed specifically for mentors in healthcare settings, the book can also be useful to a broader audience, including healthcare students.
A useful book for registrants and mentors written around the 8 NMC domains for Supporting Learning. Less useful for Practice Teachers and AHP Clinical Educators due to the dominance of the NMC Framework and links throughout to pre registration nursing programmes.
This is an excellent addition to the current texts available to mentor students at our university. We already have 6 on order for the library.
As an experienced practice educator in both academic and clinical fields, there are very few texts relevant to radiographers. Therefore, I would strongly recommend this text as it is entirely appropriate for the allied health professions.
A well written book which discusses the relevant policies influencing mentoring. It should be a practical help as well.
