Written by a team of leading researchers associated with NatCen Social Research (the National Centre for Social Research) this textbook leads students and researchers through the entire process of qualitative research from beginning to end - moving through design, sampling, data collection, analysis and reporting. In this fully revised second edition you will find:
- A practical account of how to carry out qualitative research which recognises a range of current approaches and applications
- A brand new chapter on ethics
- A brand new chapter on observational research
- Updated advice on using software when analysing your qualitative data
- New case studies which illustrate issues you may encounter and how problems have been tackled by other researchers.
A useful text for undergraduate students who are new to the world of reasearch. Concepts explored in an accesible way
This is an excellent textbook as would be expected from editors of this calibre. Within a week or receipt I've already recommended it to two of my PhD students. Accessible but sophisticated. Excellent!
I have been using this ‘excellent’ book for a number of years while teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. If you’re not quite sure which book to buy for the qualitative research, then this might be the best choice!
I have had some feedback already from my MSc Dissertation students who had look at the inspection copy. All were very positive about its contents. They particularly liked the systematic approach that follows the research process in a logical order. They described it as 'nice and easy' to read. The epistemological information 'was as simplified as it could be'. My own view is that it is an excellent text, and one I'll be adopting for the 'Research for Social Work' module that I teach.
Excellent overview of Qualitative Methods. I belive that my students will find the sections on summarizing text very useful.
Excellent level of coverage both in terms of topic content and amount of detail. This new edited text with updated chapters should be an invaluable resource for our postgraduate students
Key text for those postgraduate students embarking on research projects within education for the first time
Great addition to any student's collection of research methods texts
