CL Cole holds a PhD in Sport Studies from USC and a PhD in Sociology of Culture and Women's Studies from the University of Iowa. She is currently Associate Professor of Kinesiology, Sociology, and Women's Studies, and a core faculty member of the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory; Cultural Studies and Interpretive Research; and Science, Technology, Information, and Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Cole’s research has appeared in Critical Sociology, Cultural Studies Annual, Immigrants and Minorities, Masculinities, Sociology of Sport Journal, and collections such as Multiculturalism in the United States: Current Issues/Contemporary Voices; Queer Theory/Sociology; The Olympics at the Millennium: Power; Politics and the Games; and Sport in Postmodern Times. She is the co-editor of Women, Sport & Culture and co-editor of the SUNY series, Sport, Culture & Social Relations. Currently, she is completing a book that examines the relations among national culture, power, the body, and identity in post-war America.
