Examining the principles of emotion, thought and behavior: The SAGE Encyclopedia of Theory in Psychology

March 29, 2016

What concepts shape the contemporary study and practice of psychology? Analyzing key theorists and theories in the field, The SAGE Encyclopedia of Theory in Psychology contains information on the theories’ histories, strengths, and weaknesses. The SAGE Encyclopedia of Theory in Psychology is out today as a two-volume set.

“Throughout the process [of creating the encyclopedia], my sights were set on the publication of a knowledgeable and extensive resource that would serve well as a new addition to libraries across the world and, in that way, serve well their clienteles—undergraduate and graduate students, instructors in psychology and related courses, and those in the general public with a hankering to know more about psychology and its potential assets for better living,” wrote Editor Harold L. “Hal” Miller, Jr.

Containing approximately 300 signed articles from international scholars, The SAGE Encyclopedia of Theory in Psychology addresses multiple theories across 21 topics, such as cognition, consciousness, culture, development, emotion, evolution, gender, health, intelligence, language, learning motivation, neuroscience , organizations, perception, personality, psychopathology, research methods, sensation, sociality, and therapy.

The number of articles dedicated to each topic ranges from 9 to 23, and each article concludes with Cross References and Further Readings sections. The SAGE Encyclopedia of Theory in Psychology also includes a Chronology of theory within psychology, a Master Bibliography, a Reader’s Guide that groups related entries, and an annotated Resource Guide that directs readers to books, journals, and associations in the field.
