SAGE Publishing’s childhood obesity and nutrition journal becomes OA, expands scope

July 14, 2016

SAGE Publishing today announces the launch of the open access journal Childhood Obesity and Nutrition (OBN), replacing ICAN: Infant, Child & Adolescent Nutrition. Broadening the scope of ICAN, OBN will reflect the changing field of pediatric obesity and nutrition as well as new knowledge from cross-disciplinary research.

Childhood Obesity and Nutrition strives to carve out a unique niche among scientific publications devoted to the serious public health problem of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents,” commented Dr. Goutham Rao, Editor. “Our goal is to create a multi-disciplinary forum for novel ideas that can inform our current understanding of pediatric obesity.”

OBN will publish practical strategies for obesity and nutrition counseling and related care, psychological and social causes, and educational curricula for stakeholders. The journal will accept original research, commentaries, reviews, and articles on nutrition and obesity education programs for students, health care professionals, and others. OBN is also interested in descriptions of new public policies designed to improve nutrition and weight status among children.

“Childhood Obesity and Nutrition will address the need for timely, high-quality research in pediatric obesity and nutrition,” commented Bob Howard, Vice President of Journals, SAGE Publishing. “Through OBN, we will share the latest information on the proper nutrition children need for healthy lives.”

Dr. Rao continued, “We welcome submissions from a diverse range of authors including professionals in the fields of nutrition, nursing, physiology, pharmacology, medicine, education, exercise science, community engagement, and public policy.”

All issues of ICAN are archived here. For more information on OBN, click here.
