Two SAGE Publishing Journals win PROSE Awards from the Association of American Publishers
Two SAGE Publishing journals were recently announced as winners of the 2018 PROSE Awards, the publishing industry’s highest honors for professional and scholarly works presented by the Association of American Publishers (AAP). Communication & Sport (C&S), published in association with the International Association for Communication and Sport, was honored as the Best New Journal in Social Sciences and the JDR Clinical & Translational Research (JDR CTR), published in partnership with the International and American Associations for Dental Research, was awarded Best New Journal in Biological and Life Sciences.
Dedicated to the fields of communication and media studies, C&S features research about the increasing social and cultural impacts of sport. C&S is a media-centric journal and utilizes innovations in mixed media, including original podcasts highlighting audio interviews with journal contributors, social media engagement, and field mobilization.
"Starting a new scholarly journal is a challenging endeavor in the digital age,” said C&S founder and editor Dr. Lawrence A. Wenner. “With the support of SAGE Publishing and a remarkably distinguished senior editorial team and editorial board that represents the leading scholars in communication and sport from around the globe, we've had the good fortune of attracting some of the strongest research in this clearly impactful area.”
The JDR CTR is the only international journal that publishes studies on a variety of topics using a broad range of methodologies in clinical and translational research in oral health. It publishes content that focuses on research with an immediate potential to affect clinical and health services-related outcomes.
“I am truly delighted that the JDR CTR was awarded the Best New Journal in Biological and Life Sciences,” said Editor Jocelyne Feine. “Our journal has grown tremendously since its inception, and the JDR CTR is already making an impact on the field of dental, oral, and craniofacial research.”
This year, the PROSE Awards received more than 550 books, journals and eProducts for consideration in 51 subject categories within five areas of excellence: Biological and Life Sciences, Humanities, Physical Sciences & Mathematics, Reference Works, and Social Sciences.
“We congratulate JDR CTR and C&S on receiving these prestigious awards,” commented Bob Howard, Senior Vice President of Global Journals, SAGE Publishing. “These distinctions reflect SAGE’s mission to work alongside leading scientific societies and esteemed editorial boards to publish an array of high-quality journals across a wide variety of academic disciplines.”
“We live in a time when the validity of science, the value of scholarship, and the notion of truth itself are under direct attack. Programs like PROSE Awards that recognize excellence in scholarship and scholarly communications are more important than ever, and all of this year’s winners add significantly to the advancement of science and understanding,” said Steven Heffner, PROSE Awards Co-Chair and Vice President, Product Strategy, Wolters Kluwer.
