The Journal of European Studies (JES) is a peer-reviewed journal, that covers the languages and cultures of Europe, preferably from a trans-national or comparative perspective. The journal is also interested in original research contributions rooted in national philologies or cinemas. Its broad remit also includes dance, music, architecture, and culinary cultures. Its focus is on the modern post-Renaissance period.

"The scope of Journal of European Studies is wide and bold, its interdisciplinary reach exhilarating and fertile; but at the same time the quality of the work it inspires and publishes is rooted in specifics and brings with it the very best specialist credentials." David Walker, University of Sheffield, UK

The journal provides an outlet for world-leading research from across the globe dedicated to furthering the understanding of European literature and ideas since the Renaissance. The journal covers all nations and regions of the European Continent, including Britain and Ireland, stretching from the Arctic to Malta, the Urals to the Azores. Its disciplinary and interdisciplinary remit, based in the Humanities in Cultural Studies, is intended to be broad. The editors particularly welcome comparative approaches.

The Journal of European Studies encourages submissions from a wide range of disciplines, including cinema, critique, cultural history, cultural studies, history of ideas, identities, minorities, modern languages, national literatures and comparative literatures, and translation.

The reviews section has space for discussion of individual titles and review essays. The recommendation of titles to review and offers to review are welcome and should be addressed to the Reviews Editor. Conference reports and other notices on relevant topics will also be considered for publication.

All submissions are double peer-reviewed and must be written in English. Quotations should either be translated or presented in the original with a parallel English version.

Proposals for special issues should be made to the General Editor.
