Professional Accountability in Social Care and Health
Challenging unacceptable practice and its management

First Edition

April 2012 | 224 pages | Learning Matters
Many social workers, health care staff and teachers maintain high standards of professionalism, often in stressful and challenging circumstances. However, research also reveals instances where individual practitioners and managers, or whole organisations, fail to act lawfully, ethically and/or carefully. This book addresses just those instances by providing guidance on how to maintain accountable professionalism in tricky "what if?" situations. Dilemmas are explored using case studies and the mosaic of legal rules and regulatory body requirements for accountable professionalism are also laid out.

The book will appeal to students and newly qualified practitioners in teaching, health and social work and their managers.

I found this text easy to use and dip in and out of. I would recommend as supplemental reading and the content is applicable to a broad spectrum of staff groups.

A wide scope of professional and ethical issues in the Health and Social Care field is provided in this book which is well structured. The content is suitable for students on the Health and Social care and related courses.

This is one of the most appropriate books on the market currently and the authors evoke questions with answers to assist any social work practitioner practising today. I found this book to be most inspiring and informative on an area that is pertinent to any social work practitioner from newly qualified to advanced practitioner / manager.

This book is one of those that one will keep going to and each time read something new or rather gain a better understanding to the whole area of professional accountability.

An essential book to have at hand for all practitioners.

A very timely book that addresses central question of professional accountability from wide ranging perspectives.

Very easy book to read and understand. I particularly liked the explanations of Duty of Care.

The website links, whilst helpful and easier to update, mean that the book doesn't stand alone.

This book is timely. In a time of organisational change and financial constraints in Health & Social care many workers are dealing with increase workloads. This impacts potentially on acountability. the book addresses the key areas and gives useful examples and reflection points along with practical suggestions. I have no doubt this book will prove invaluable for undergraduate health & social care students.
